GROWER: Guyra GLASS HOUSE
From Guyra to THE INDEPENDENT GROCERS. Why This One Matters.
Let’s be honest, good produce doesn’t just appear on a shelf.
It’s not luck. It’s not timing.
It’s people. It’s systems. It’s long-term thinking.
And sometimes, it’s a four-metre-high wall of capsicums in the middle of Guyra.
STORIES THAT FEED US
We spent the day up there recently with our good friends at Costa.
Walking rows of glasshouses that stretch longer than most people’s attention spans, guided by people who live and breathe this game. Tomatoes in every form, truss, snacking, sweet delights and now, something new: bold, blocky red capsicums and a line of mini seedless capsicums that are seriously turning heads.
This is where it starts.
STORIES THAT FEED US
From a glasshouse in Guyra…
To OUR CUSTOMERS shop floor.
Inside these glasshouses, it’s controlled chaos, in the best way. Temperature, light, water, timing, all dialled in. Because when you’re supplying retail and wholesale customers 12 months of the year, “close enough” doesn’t cut it.
As Paul Butterworth from Costa puts it:
“We grow all year round… these structures allow us to produce fruit right through summer and those really cold winter months.”
That’s not just impressive, that’s essential. And this is where the real story kicks in. Because at Lemdell, we’re not just turning up and buying produce. We’re investing in it.
STORIES THAT FEED US
When you build long-term partnerships with progressive growers like Costa, you’re not just buying produce.
you’re investing in quality, reliability, and something retailers can genuinely stand behind.
That’s the difference. It’s why these capsicums aren’t just another line. They’re built for purpose. Grown in a region that rarely tips over 30 degrees. Designed for consistency. Backed by innovation. And ultimately? Made for the independent grocer. The ones who actually put their name to it. Because this is where the chain connects. From a glasshouse in Guyra… To a Lemdell customers shop floor. Stores like Parisi in Rose Bay don’t have the luxury of getting it wrong. Their customers expect the best, visually, in flavour, in shelf life. And when that crate lands on the floor, it’s their reputation on the line. That’s why this matters.
STORIES THAT FEED US
The mini capsicums?
Sweet, crunchy, snackable. built for modern consumers.
The blocky reds?
Strong, vibrant, retail-ready.
The tomatoes?
Still doing what they’ve always done, delivering when it counts.
STORIES THAT FEED US
This is innovation, sure. But it’s not innovation for the sake of it. It’s innovation that solves real problems.
Supply. Consistency. Quality. Margin.
And that’s what The Stories That Feed Us is all about.
Not just telling stories, connecting the dots.
Growers. Agents. Grocers. Chefs.
Because when you see the whole picture, you understand the value. And when you understand the value, you sell it better.
