FAQs
Is all Lemdell produce Australian grown?
At Lemdell, our first preference is always Australian-grown produce. We work with over 40 Australian farming operations year-round and pride ourselves on supporting local growers. However, in rare circumstances, such as extreme weather, crop failure, or seasonal shortages, we may source certain lines from overseas to maintain continuity of supply for our retail and wholesale partners. When this happens, all products are clearly labelled with their country of origin, and we strive to return to Australian supply as quickly as possible.
Why are some of your products imported?
Fresh produce is impacted by natural variables such as weather, seasonality, and farm conditions. When our Australian grower network is unable to meet demand due to challenges like crop failures or unseasonal weather events, we may temporarily import select products to ensure consistency for our grocer customers and their shoppers. This decision is never taken lightly and is always clearly labelled to maintain transparency.
Does Lemdell own farms?
Lemdell previously operated its own farms but today works as an agent and partner to growers. We proudly support a national network of over 40 farms, acting as a vital link between growers and the marketplace. Our job is to balance supply and demand, provide market access for producers, and ensure that the best possible produce reaches retailers, wholesalers, and export partners.
Where is Lemdell based?
We’re proudly located at 165–167 Shed B, Sydney Markets, Flemington, NSW 2140, operating in one of the most dynamic fresh produce hubs in the country. Our location allows us to work directly with growers, buyers, and customers at the heart of the Australian produce industry.
What is Coltivare?
Coltivare is our seasonal, self-published editorial magazine that tells real stories from the fresh produce world. Each issue showcases growers, chefs, retailers, and industry innovators while offering insight, recipes, and inspiration for the season ahead. It’s our way of giving back to the community and elevating the conversation around food and farming.
What types of customers does Lemdell supply?
We work across three key markets:
Retail – including Harris Farm, Supa Barn, IGA, and independent grocers
Wholesale – direct to chefs, providores, and greengrocers across Sydney Markets
Export – via our export brand, supplying premium produce to international partners in Asia and beyond.
How can I be sure the produce is fresh?
We’re proudly located at 165–167 Shed B, Sydney Markets, Flemington, NSW 2140, operating in one of the most dynamic fresh produce hubs in the country. Our location allows us to work directly with growers, buyers, and customers at the heart of the Australian produce industry.
I saw a product marked “Grown in China, packed in Australia.” Why is that?
We understand concerns around imported produce. In this specific case (e.g., Sugar Snap Peas), a supply shortage from Australian growers due to poor weather required us to import a small volume to meet retailer demand. Our packaging was compliant. Supporting Australian produce remains our priority.
Can I visit your operation?
Absolutely. We welcome visitors by appointment and encourage growers, chefs, and curious customers to visit our stand at Sydney Markets. We’d love to walk you through our process and showcase the incredible variety of Australian produce we’re proud to represent.
